Understanding RIR
What does RIR mean?
RIR means reps in reserve: your estimate of how many more repetitions you could complete with good technique at the end of a set.
If you finish eight reps and think you could do two more, record 2 RIR. Log your estimate for each working set.
How FBY uses your average
For eligible exercises, progression uses the average RIR across the working sets. For example, 4, 3 and 2 averages 3, meeting a target of 3. Every required set must still reach the top of its rep range, and the other progression conditions must be met, including a Green session throughout.
For top-set exercises, progression is assessed on the top set. Bodyweight, assisted and timed movements have their own guidance rather than a standard automatic weight increase.
